Narika Volunteers

Narika volunteers are the backbone of our organization, and help us with our crucial work. Together, we can create positive change in our community and enable people to lead healthy and happy lives.

How can you help?

We welcome all individuals to apply as volunteers who are committed to our cause. Volunteer opportunities can range from short term to long term, and locally or remotely. Volunteers can help with fundraising, marketing, outreach, event planning/coordination, volunteer recruitment, client advocacy, administrative help, and much more. We ask that volunteers commit four hours per month for at least a one year volunteership period. Please fill out the volunteer application and our volunteer coordinator will be in touch with you soon!

In order to work direct services (with clients) there is a 40 hour DVAT training required. Please email for upcoming trainings.

- In-Office Help:

During the weekdays, we welcome all volunteers to help at our office location. These positions are for energetic individuals who are happy pitching in with tasks ranging from designing flyers to reorganizing our inventory.

- Community Outreach and Education:

Narika is often requested to be at community events to share our message and raise awareness about domestic violence. We need volunteers to staff our information tables, recruit new volunteers, and solicit donations. Past events have included San Francisco Yoni Ki Baat performances, Sevathon, Desi Comedy Festival, the Fremont gurdwara, and many more local events. These positions are for volunteers who are outgoing and comfortable with public speaking.

- Self-Empowerment and Economic Development (SEED):

Our SEED sessions are taught by trained volunteer instructors who are familiar with our culture and can donate their time to help recent immigrants gain economic independence. In addition to volunteer instructors, we also need session volunteers who can support smaller groups of participants, and childcare volunteers who can watch the participants’ children during the sessions (usually on the weekends). If interested, please contact .

- Helpline and Survivor Support:

Each year, Narika fields over 1000 calls and emails requesting assistance for South Asian survivors of domestic violence. We need dedicated helpline volunteers to check our voicemail, or act as translators on behalf of our client. If interested, please contact

- Events and Fundraising:

Narika hosts one Gala fundraiser per year, along with many smaller events such as happy hours/dinners in partnership with other organizations. Volunteers can staff events, lead planning processes, and solicit donations from local organizations and corporations.

- Remote Opportunities:

Remote opportunities include website design, social media management, calling our partners/volunteers, flyering, writing original essays/poems regarding our work, and publicizing our events and programs in our community.

*We are always open to your suggestions and feedback for new ways you can contribute to our cause.
