Keerthana Kalaivanan’s Fundraiser for Narika
Art has the power to bring people together, inspire change, and support women and survivors facing incredibly difficult circumstances.
Our goal is to raise at least $5,000 to support survivors of domestic violence served by Narika.
Narika is a grassroots nonprofit based in Fremont that has been serving survivors of domestic violence in the Bay Area since 1992. Narika was founded by South Asian immigrant women who recognized the urgent need for culturally responsive domestic violence support for the South Asian diaspora within Bay Area communities. What began as an informal, family-like network has grown into a nonprofit organization that continues to serve hundreds of women each year.
At its heart, Narika is about community showing up for community. For more than three decades, Narika’s work has been rooted in listening, responding, and being there for survivors when they need it the most. In 2025 alone, Narika supported over 970 survivors, offering emergency shelter, transportation, food, safety planning, support groups, therapy, financial empowerment, legal resources, transitional housing, and more. Narika also understands the importance of prevention and offers education, outreach, and parenting modules (SAPHAL) to break cycles of violence across generations.
About Keerthana Kalaivanan
Keerthana Kalaivanan is a rising sophomore at Piedmont Hills High School with a strong passion for philanthropy and community impact.
She has been learning Bharatanatyam, an ancient Indian classical dance form, for more than seven years. This art has become a deep passion, and she is now preparing for her milestone, Arangetram, representing years of dedication, discipline, and love for dance.
Bharatanatyam is a tradition where precise eye movements, expressive facial gestures, intricate hand mudras, and rhythmic footwork come together to convey meaning.
Keerthana has been fortunate to learn under the guidance of her Guru, Smt. Rani Sunil, an accomplished dancer, choreographer, and founder of the School of Indian Dance.
Every donation brings safety, dignity, and hope to a survivor.
These may seem like simple acts of service but they all represent significant milestones for a vulnerable survivor. An uber ride can mean the first step towards leaving abuse behind. A therapy session can be the first time a survivor fully shares all they have experienced. A legal consultation can help a survivor understand their choices. And a safe place to sleep can give a mother and child the rest and security they desperately need.
By supporting this fundraiser, you are not simply making a donation - you are spearheading change and saying no to domestic violence. 100% of the proceeds raised through this fundraiser will directly benefit Narika’s life-saving programs.
