Job Description
The Client Advocate provides culturally specific services to women affected by domestic violence including outreach, the Helpline, support groups, and case management. Provides high quality, accessible, cost effective, and client­centered services which comply with local, state, and federal requirements. Under the direction of the Program Manager, ensures services are integrated with community standards of practice, and service priorities, as well as aligned with organizational goals/objectives.

● Responds to crisis and non­urgent calls on Narika’s helpline during business hours and after hours based on coverage needs
● Provides crisis intervention, safety planning, peer counseling, and advocacy services to survivors of domestic violence on the helpline
● Provides information, psycho­education, and referrals on the helpline to promote clients’ emotional and economic independence
● Provides in person support, linkages to referrals, and case management services to clients around medical, legal, social service, shelter/housing, employment, and mental health needs
● Under the direction of the Program Manager, develops and maintains Narika’s intervention services, including the helpline, support groups, and case management services
● Provides court accompaniment and in person support during civil (restraining order) and criminal hearings
● Provides translation and interpretation services, as needed

● Facilitates domestic violence support groups utilizing evidence based curriculum emphasizing empowerment, self sufficiency and life skills
● Trains volunteers for all intervention programs, including developing training manuals, community resources manuals and other documentation
● Maintains comprehensive and timely client files and accurate, up­to­date documentation on all program activities
● Completes and submits reports to the client management tracking system in a timely and accurate manner
● Provides write­ups of client profiles and other documentation to support legal partners and grant submissions
● Provides community outreach and education on domestic violence in South Asian cultures, including representing Narika within the local community and at conferences
● Provides cultural sensitivity training to community partners/victim service providers
● Must maintain a high degree of confidentiality for the organization and its’ clients
● Participates in internal quality improvement efforts as needed
● Maintains and assists with building community partnerships and networks
● Participates in weekly case reviews
● Attends staff meetings and training related to domestic violence advocacy
● Other duties as assigned

● Bachelor’s degree required
● Completion of CA mandated 40­hour domestic violence training and certification
● Strong knowledge and understanding of the impact of domestic violence, sexual assault,
and oppression
● Strong problem solving skills required
● Have the right personality and disposition for this job ­ be empathetic, non­judgemental
and sensitive to client needs
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English required
● Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and Excel is required
● Familiarity with South Asian culture and community is required
● Ability to uphold the mission, vision and ethical standards of Narika
● Demonstrate a strong desire to exceed goals and commitments
● Attention to detail as well as ability to work independently and as part of a team
● Willingness and ability to work with people of diverse ethnicity, socio­economic
circumstance, sexual orientation, religious and cultural backgrounds
● High­level organization and prioritization skills and ability to maintain a calm,
professional demeanor
● Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours
● Must be able to work independently and to meet multiple deadlines
● High tolerance for ambiguity and change

● Must possess valid California driver’s license and evidence of insurability
● Experience in case management is strongly preferred
● Experience volunteering or working in a related field strongly preferred
● Knowledge of community resources and referral agencies strongly preferred
● Bilingual (Hindi or other South Asian language)/bicultural experience preferred
