Program Associate – Narika’s SEED program

Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach is the largest social justice law firm serving the low-income Asian American and Pacific Islander communities of the Greater Bay Area. Founded in 1975, we provide multilingual and culturally appropriate legal services in the areas of Family Law and Domestic Violence, Immigration and Immigrant Rights, Senior Law and Elder Abuse, and Anti-Human Trafficking. With a staff of 25 including 10 attorneys, we provide legal services in more than a dozen different languages and dialects emphasizing a holistic and client-empowering approach.

 

Responsibilities

Goal of Position

The Program Associate will work closely with the SEED Program Manager to set up the infrastructure and systems to expand the SEED program to San Francisco and Santa Clara counties.

Job Summary

The Program Associate is responsible for creating the following systems for the new locations:

Goal 1: Create and implement a regional outreach strategy

Objectives

• Build partnerships with agencies serving low-income immigrant and refugee women in the area

• Build outreach strategy in collaboration with Narika’s Outreach coordinator and Community Ambassadors

• Create materials with Communications Associate for client outreach

• Evaluate plan

Goal2: Adapt program services for participants in the new geographies

Objectives

• Review and understand existing program services offered in Oakland office

• Replicate evaluation, training, and ongoing support services based on clients’ needs

Goal 4: Build capacity in the new areas

Objectives

• Find and secure appropriate space for classes in Santa Clara working with Program Manager

• Build infrastructure to expand programs to the region

Reporting Relationships

The Program Assistant will report to the Program Manager 


Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently
  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • Strong communication, writing and public speaking skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail/organization skills
  • Knowledge of basic computer programs (MS Word, Publisher, Excel)
  • Commitment and ability to work as a part of a team
  • Commitment to fulfilling Narika’s mission
  • Ability to work evenings and some weekends as required
  • Car and valid driver’s license
  • Bachelor’s Degree

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with English-as-a-second-language learners
  • Experience working with low-income immigrant and/or refugee women
  • Fluency in a South Asian language a plus (Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi in particular)
  • Marketing and/or communications skills and experience
  • B.A. or M.A. in business, education or related field
                      

Job specifications

Classification: AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer
Compensation: AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a modest living allowance ($800-
$850/month) from the VISTA program to cover the cost of their expenses.
Benefits: After successful completion of your year of service with AmeriCorps VISTA, you are eligible to receive either a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $4,725 or an end-of-service stipend of $1,200.
