Board of Directors

 Narika's Board of Directors is responsible for the development, implementation and management of the mission and vision of Narika. Narika's foundation lies in its volunteers and the Board recognizes the support and work of its volunteers and growing staff. The Directors each have a fiduciary responsibility towards the organization as governed by the by-laws. As such, the Board oversees fiscal management and fundraising development. Each Board of Director serves as an ambassador for the organization and communicates Narika's mission, vision and programming and are dedicated community members who come to Narika with a long-standing commitment to these values.

 

Manju Seal - President

Manju Seal is American Marshall Fellow 2008 that annually selects roughly 50 individuals from across United States (www.gmfus.org). Of her sixteen years of professional career, she has twelve years of investment experience with an emphasis in structured finance, risk management and quantitative methods. She is a VP alumna from Goldman Sachs, New York .   At McMorgan Co. of San Francisco, as a MBS portfolio manager, she implemented securitized strategy worth $4 billion across all of their institutional accounts. Her finance career started out as a structured finance analyst Arthur Andersen. From 1992-95, she was a systems analyst for the U.S. Cooperative Extension System for the National Center for Diversity at Kentucky State University-Frankfort.  

In 2009, she spearheaded the Friends of Live Earth (FOLE) Program in India for Live Earth/Ixoraa Media.  The program raised awareness in 3 Indian cities (2009) about Climate Crisis (based on Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth presentation) via school activities, screening eco-friendly movies, conference, eco-fair, and eco-quiz.  As the on-ground-project leader for FOLE India, she brought together over 1.1 million kids in 5,000 schools across India who participated in these activities.  More details at http://liveearth.org/en/liveearthblog/friends-of-live-earth-india-events

From 2003-08, she volunteered as a software instructor for the South Asian Economic Empowerment Development (SEED) Program for Narika (http://www.narika.org/) and joined its Board in 2007.  As President of Narika's Board of Directors her current role has brought her to the forefront of engaging with the South Asian community in the Bay area since 2009. 

Member of 85 Broads (http://www.85broads.com/, 20,000+ global network for women in 82 countries), she is a chapter leader for San Francisco and helped established the Mumbai and Bangalore chapters for 85 Broads in 2008-09.   She is an avid traveler and since fall 2007 through 2008, has visited over fifteen countries and forty cities.  A published essayist, clean tech/innovation/strategy is her other passion.  Manju has Master's degrees in math and ethnomusicology.

 

Megha Sahgal - Secretary

Megha Sahgal has been a volunteer with Narika since 2003.  She started her service with the organization in the capacity of a helpline advocate, and while doing so, learned quite a bit about human resiliency and how much there is yet to be done in the realm of raising awareness and consciousness about domestic violence in her community.
 
These experiences led her to a complete immersion in outreach efforts within the Punjabi community, as well as teaching portions of the job and career development module in Narika's SEED program, and helping to develop Narika's Men's Outreach initiatives. She is very excited to continue her efforts to reach out and work with members of her community while serving on the board.

Megha is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley where she had an amazing time studying Economics and Spanish.  She has several years of strategy consulting and finance experience, and presently works in enterprise finance, while pursuing her Masters in Counseling Psychology.  She also greatly enjoys an intense study of Kathak, meditation, creative writing and humor, and painting

 

Devika Anand Patil - Treasurer

Devika Anand Patil joined the Narika Board of Directors in December 2007. Originally from Bombay, India, she calls the Bay Area home. Devika is currently Vice President of the Gaming, Homebuilding, and Real Estate Group at The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), where she has worked for over 7 years. As a corporate and investment banker, she has had over a decade of experience including co-founding her current group; providing corporate lending and debt structuring advice to top Fortune 500 Companies; and opening the firm's west coast corporate banking division. In joining Narika, Devika adds tremendous financial and analytical expertise.

Prior to working for RBS, Devika worked as an Analyst in JP Morgan's investment banking group. An alumn of Tufts University, she received her BA in Economics and International Relations. Her interests include Kathak (Indian classical dance), reading and traveling. She's still amazed to this day that she finished the '04 San Diego Rock-n-Roll marathon.

 

Neerja Bhutani

Neerja holds an undergraduate degree in Economics and a graduate degree in Social Work from Delhi University, India   She completed the Personal Financial Planning certificate program at U.C Berkeley Extension with distinction and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER practitioner.  

Neerja has been a volunteer with Narika since 2005. Neerja worked as a community social worker in India and as a medical social worker in the Bay area for almost 6years.

Neerja has been a financial planning professional since 1997; she worked as Financial Planner with an independent firm before starting her own ‘Hourly As Needed" financial Planning practice. Neerja  is a founder and principal of Bhutani-Palmin Financial Planning LLC, a fee-only financial planning and investment advisory firm with offices in Walnut Creek. and Oakland. Bhutani-Palmin works with clients of all income levels and stages of life: young people just starting out, families planning for college and retirement, retirees entering a new and exciting phase of life. The firm does not account minimums or sell any products.

 

Rom Srinivasan

Rom Srinivasan is a veteran of many Bay Area tech startups and a
consultant in Chicago for 7 years prior to arriving in San Francisco.
But more fulfilling to him is his nascent photography career.

He has a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois in
Urbana and a Master's Degree from the Illinois Institute of
Technology. Rom served as a board member for India Development
Service in Chicago and volunteered for Apna Ghar, a domestic violence
shelter in Chicago. He will be helping to develop Narika's Men's
Outreach program.
